Dear Alleigh:
I read your reviews on the great taste but I am asking is it sweet??? I like Merlot and Cabernet…so sweet is yuk to me….please help me.
It’s hard to believe it was more than two years ago that I reviewed the 2007 Tikal Patriota while packing for a girls’ weekend trip to cheer on my friend Christine as she ran her first marathon. As it turned out, not only has she run several marathons since, but I also started running. In fact, she was a big part of my inspiration to run a half marathon. That wine really was the great start to a great weekend!
As for the wine itself, I think that my description of “sweet spices” may have thrown you off a little. There were some cinnamon, nutmeg, and dark chocolate characteristics, but this wine was a dry wine with no actual “sweetness.” There is no need to be concerned about it being a sweet wine or dessert wine. If you like big red wines, then this is definitely a wine worth checking out. It had more tannins than a Merlot or Merlot-dominated blend (like a right bank Bordeaux), but would be comparable in tannins and body to some of the big California Cabernets.
I hope this helps. Thanks for emailing! Cheers—
Alleigh
