I am after a red from R Wine makers in South Australia and imported by the grateful palate import company. The wine is called Bitch. Do you know where I can import it from or is it available in the UK?
Interestingly enough, the question I get most often is about locating Bitch Grenache. Clearly, it is a wine that in high demand, but difficult to find.
The wonderful thing about Bitch was it had a fabulous quality/price ratio. The truth is, that could be said about most of Grateful Palate Imports’ wines, so it was loss to “A Glass After Work” wine drinkers when R Wines (the producer) and Grateful Palate (the importer) ran into financial difficulties a few years ago.
The last time I wrote about Bitch, which was in 2011, the 2009 vintage had surfaced, but it was no longer being made as an Australian wine. It was a Spanish blend made out of grapes from the Aragón and Navarra regions, although I believe Australian winemaker Chris Ringland is still involved in its production. I haven’t had the wine since it started being produced in Spain, so can’t comment on how similar it is to its Australian predecessor.
In terms of buying the wine, honestly, it’s getting harder and harder to find it, which makes me wonder how long this newer version will continue to be around. For now, though, it looks like Total Wine and Bottle King are selling it for under $10 in the United States, although I’m not sure what vintage Total Wine has for sale. Bottle King looks like they’re selling a 2010 vintage. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about purchasing wine in England, so I can’t be too much help on how to import it. If any readers have information that would be helpful, please comment or feel free to email me privately.
Thanks again for emailing, and I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
Question of the Day: Have you ever had Bitch Grenache? Have you had one of the 2009 or 2010 vintages? What did you think?
