Mailbag Monday: 2013 Wine Resolutions

Hi Alleigh:
I’m trying to broaden my wine horizons and was wondering if you had any wine resolutions for the upcoming year that you would be willing to share.

Happy New Year!

Thanks for emailing…and Happy New Year to you too!!

I was very public about my 2012 wine plans, although not as public about acknowledging when each one fell by the wayside.  Therefore, since I’m still licking my wounds of failure as I look back on those 2012 wine plans, I feel like I need to keep my 2013 resolutions a little more realistic and a little more focused.  So, yes, I do have resolutions, but they’re not as confining as last year’s goals.  Here they are:

  • Blog 2 or 3 times a week.  This is something I was much more diligent about in years past, but let my posts become more and more irregular over the past year.  Some of it was laziness, some of it was because other things got in the way.  But, I miss it, so the best way to fix that is to get back to it.  I’m planning to refocus and reenergizing the blog, and I’d love to hear what you think as I do it.
  • Visit more wineries because they are the place where all the magic happens.  I only visited one winery in 2012, which seems like a shame.  I live close to Virginia Wine Country, but rarely make it out there.  I’ve only been to Napa once and never to any of the other California wine regions.  I’m not expecting my wine travels and vineyard visits to change over night, but I would like to make more of an effort to visit the wineries and share my experiences with my readers.
  • Keep my 2012 plans in mind throughout 2013 without forcing myself to stick to quotas for the number of reviews.  The motivations behind those goals were good, but clearly it was a little too much for me to do all at once.  That doesn’t mean I should abandon them.  Just finesse them a little.  So, be prepared for some more bubbly, kosher wines and beer!

Question of the Day: What are your 2013 wine resolutions?

Cheers!
